Founded in 1923 by Bishop Francis Howard, Covington Latin School (CLS) is the premier educational institution for gifted and talented students in the Tri-State area.
Covington Latin's mission is to be a Catholic institution prompted by the Gospel message of Jesus Christ to accelerate the unique abilities of its students by fostering an environment rich in belonging, classical in thought, modern in approach, which cultivates leadership in service to others.

an atmosphere of academic and spiritual leadership through its
accelerated curriculum. And there has never been a more
exciting time to be at Latin School.The premise of acceleration is
simple: given the wide-ranging aptitude and needs of same-age
children, research shows that inclination and ability are much more
accurate determinants of placement than age alone. Latin
School offers an opportunity for bright and enthusiastic fifth,
sixth and seventh grade students to advance one to two years, to a
curriculum more appropriate to their needs. Admission is
selective, ensuring that incoming students will be surrounded with
a talented and motivated peer group. The cultivation of this
atmosphere dates back to 1923 when Bishop Howard founded Covington
Latin as a college preparatory school to serve the "best and
brightest".The Class of 2014 averaged a 28.4 ACT composite and
earned $10.6 million in scholarship offers, averaging over $213,000
per student. Graduates enjoy 100% college acceptanceand
go on to excel in the nation`s finest colleges and universities,
with 98% holding bachelor`s degrees and 48% with graduate or
terminal degrees (MD, PhD, JD, etc.). Alumni have compiled
tremendous records of achievement and leadership in the Church,
business, law, engineering, medicine, public service, education,
science and technology.Known as the Bishop`s School (CLS students
are uniquely privileged to become Pontifical Servers), Latin School
is a place of abundant spiritual growth. Religion coursework builds
on the foundations developed within families and provides a
comprehensive understanding of the Catholic faith. That knowledge
is put into practice by the Campus Ministry through weekly
all-school Masses in the Cathedral, class retreats and humanitarian
service work.Extracurricular involvement reflects student
leadership and commitment to academic, social, spiritual, and
personal aspects of their total education. Latin School
offers a broad spectrum of clubs and organizations to deepen
existing interests or develop new ones, from visual arts and
philanthropy to social activism and recreation. Latin School
is a member of the KHSAA and offers baseball, basketball, bowling,
cheerleading, cross-country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming,
tennis, track and volleyball. Varsity and Junior Varsity
teams are offered (based on demand) giving everyone a chance to
participate while building self-confidence, fitness and
sportsmanship.Financial wealth should not determine access to the
best education, nor should it shape a learning community.
Latin School offers generous tuition assistance to academically
qualified students whose families would otherwise be unable to
financially consider the tuition investment. Students come
from varied economic, cultural and geographic backgrounds, drawing
enrollment from throughout Southern Ohio, Indiana and seven
counties of Northern Kentucky. We believe students are best
prepared for college and the world beyond by learning in a diverse,
coeducational atmosphere reflective of and therefore preparatory
for, their future life experiences. Latin students represent a
broad spectrum, but are unified by their considerable ability, a
pride in being part of the CLS tradition and unique sense of
purpose and belonging.To further enhance its ability to
deliver on its mission of educational excellence, Latin School
experienced a transformative $9.9 million expansion and full
renovation of its existing facilities in 2011. This includes
three university-level science classrooms and laboratories, a
technology center, physical education space, fine arts studio,
courtyard, a spacious two-level commons area and a stunning new
